He assaulted her before escaping arrest
Chronology
Delia Ballmer, a nurse at the agency, met with Sweeney, who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend. Ballmer rebuilt her life to confront Sweeney seven years later after he was arrested for another murder.
Based on a true crime story
The bodies were dumped in canals in Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. Normally I’m not a big fan of these four part TV dramas that are all the rage right now because they often veer into the absurd, but I decided to give this one a chance because it was based on true events and I definitely didn’t.
I am not disappointed
Anna Maxwell Martin’s performance as the main character was exceptional and despite being a “victim” she was faced with an extremely difficult unpleasant person and didn’t do much to help herself. Overall, it was a little rough, had a long period of time to cover, and some of the other supporting characters were a little wooden, but it didn’t spoil my fun.
I think it’s great television, and despite my negative opinion of Ballmer, Sweeney is clearly a monster here
It will be interesting to see a documentary with the real Delia Ballmer to see if she is as sensitive and rough as the dramatization portrays her to be before her ordeal.
