The Taste of Mango, Chloe Abraham’s debut feature, is an engaging, hypnotic, haunting and personal meditation on family, memory, identity, violence and love. It centers on three extraordinary women: the director’s mother, Rozana, her grandmother, Jean, and the director herself. Their stories, at times difficult, at times joyful, testify to the tangled and ever-changing nature of inheritance and the ways in which we both hurt and protect the people we love.
