Chronology
When a man returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local group of surfers who claim ownership of the secluded beach of his childhood. It received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The story unfolds with Cage arriving at a beach that means a lot to him. However, when he is ridiculed and banned from surfing there with his son, it sets off a chain of events that gradually become detached from reality, leaving the audience questioning even the reality we are witnessing. One aspect I enjoy is the exploration of the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to persist in a venture we have invested in, even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. Having recently faced a similar decision, I understand how difficult it is to step back and accept a loss. Watching this film at the GL Theatre with Cage and the rest of the cast was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. 😄
