A family that has moved into a new house in the suburbs is convinced that they are not alone. Although it was well-received at the Sundance Film Festival, some viewers were turned away by its intensity. The pacing is perfect, slowly increasing the tension without feeling like it’s dragging. The distinctive feature of Presence is its atmosphere. The cinematography and sound design create an eerie atmosphere that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Every hum, shadow and eerie silence adds to the tension and makes you feel like something terrible could happen at any moment. The performances are solid, and while the plot may not break the bank in terms of horror, it’s the execution that sets The Presence apart. The film knows how to create fear without relying on jump scares, instead focusing on psychological tension and the unknown.
