Chronology
After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot named Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island
In order to survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island’s animals and takes care of an orphaned goose. Lupita Nyong’o sits down with writer-director Chris Sanders to discuss their significant credits and time together making Wild Robot. According to author Peter Brown, the inspiration for “Wild Robot” came from a sketch he made of a robot on a tree. He then asked the question “What would an intelligent robot do in the desert?” When the fox enters the cabin, the moose growls by the door, but the sound effect used is a recording of a bear.

Legendary Oscar-nominated filmmaker Chris Sanders has triumphed by creating yet another instant classic in feature animation
After directing the adaptation of Jack London’s classic Call of the Wild, Sanders adapted Peter Brown’s #1 bestseller Wild Robot, an emotional and moving sci-fi drama about a robot named Roz, who is stranded on a desert island and must learn to adapt to the environment and has the responsibility of adopting a young orphan goose named Brightbill. Sanders, who wrote and directed the film, turned it into a masterpiece, with his longtime partner and executive producer Dean DeBois and producer Jeff Hermann, Sanders joined forces with Dreamworks Animation, the studio that made Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken, as to create this revolutionary animated masterpiece. With Oscar winner Lupita Nyongo in the lead role of Roz, with a stellar voice cast, revolutionary animation and a touching story that brings a literary phenomenon to life. Visual storytelling has been influenced by films such as James Cameron’s Avatar, Brad Pitt and Brad Pitt.
Sanders and the film’s story director, Heidi Jo Gilbert, crafted a beautiful, moving script and story that developed the emotional relationship between Roz and Brightbill and established an even more serious tone than any animated film before
Bird’s The Iron Giant, Zemiecks’ Castaway and Ruby Gillman’s The Teenage Kraken by Kirk DeMicco and Faryn Pearl, while the emotion-driven character acting was also influenced by films such as Nick Cassavetes’ My Sister’s Keeper, Tony Goldwyn’s The Last Kiss, A Lot Like Love Nigel Cole and If I Decide to Stay by R. J. Cutler. The voice cast was incredibly well chosen, with Lupita as Roz, along with newcomer and British sensation Kit Connor as Brightbill, Pedro Pascal as Flick, voice acting legend Mark Hamill as Thorn the bear, Catherine O’Hara as Pinktail, British sensation Matt Berry as Paddler, Bill Nighy as Longneck, Stephanie Hsu as Vontra and Ving Rhames as Thunderbird The Falcon (a new character created for the film), give their best performances that could give this film a potential Oscar favorite for Best Animated Feature.
